Swedish Folk Music Treasures: Björn Ståbi
The ninth volume in my Treasures series focuses on Björn Ståbi, born in 1940. Playing with him is his long-time student and fellow musician, Lisa Rydberg. Björn is the current tradition bearer of Orsa's rich musical heritage. In passing his tunes and interpretations on to Lisa, the musical thread remains unbroken and continuous. Björn was recognized as a riksspelman (Zorn Silver) back in 1961 and in 1986 he was tapped for the highest honor a Swedish folk musician can receive—The Zorn Gold. Lisa earned the Zorn Silver medal in 1999.
Filming took place at Björn's farm, which is called Hörrgård, in western Hälsingland, Sweden, on April 25 and 26, 2006.
All my Treasures films were originally for sale and distributed in DVD format. In 2024 I decided to release the films on YouTube.
