Swedish Folk Music Treasures:
Nisse Nordström graciously consented to be the first subject of the Treasures series. Born in 1921, he is one of the most colorful characters I've ever chanced to meet. Peter Hedlund (who plays with Nisse in the film) and Nisse are old buddies and I filmed two sessions with them in Nisse and Gunvor's Upplands Väsby home, first in September 2001 and later in February 2002.
Much of Nisse's tune repertoire is from the tradition of Grop Gustav and Albert Jansson who were childhood neighbors. Nisse has been a Riksspelman since 1974. In 1978 he became the first spelman (folk musician) employed in that capacity by the Swedish state. Nisse passed away April 29, 2015.
All my Treasures films were originally for sale and distributed in DVD format. In 2024 I decided to release the films on YouTube.
