Swedish Folk Music Treasures: Pelle Björnlert
The 11th volume in my Treasures series focuses on fiddler Pelle Björnlert, born in 1955. Playing with him is his son-in-law Johan Hedin on a tenor nyckelharpa. Over the years, Pelle has become widely known and respected as a solid tradition-bearer, an excellent teacher and a brilliant dance player. His focus is on the music’s functionality as dance music.
In 1992 he was presented with a Zorn Gold Medal for “masterful playing and renewal of older spelman traditons in Östergötland and Småland.”
Filming took place in Pelle’s home in Vråka, a tiny place on the coast of Småland, in June 2014.
All my Treasures films were originally for sale and distributed in DVD format. In 2024 I decided to release the films on YouTube.
